RLAS Music Department Faculty Virtual Choir
"Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas"

INFO!

Hi Friends!
All the info you need should be on this page. To the right is the sheet music for the arrangement as well as the full instrumental score. If you'd like to sing and play an instrument, feel free to submit multiple videos. (Charlie, I was thinking the harp part might be cool on vibes). Below, there is a link to the guide track for the song as well as the Google Form where finished videos should be uploaded.

Instructions for Recording
  • When you start the guide track, there are 12 counts before the piano comes in. You'll hear 4 clicks, 4 Cs played on a vibraphone, and then 4 beats of silence. In order to help line up the video and audio, please clap on the 4th beat of the vibraphone measure.
  • Record in front of a neutralish backdrop or green screen. Try to make sure that any light source is shining from behind the camera towards you, rather than from behind you towards the camera. Turn off any other sources of noise, television, fans, the screams of the damned souls you keep in your basement, etc.
  • Make the camera as steady as possible. If you have a tripod, use that. If you don’t, try using a pile of books or other items so that it is steady.
  • PLEASE TAKE YOUR VIDEO IN LANDSCAPE ORIENTATION. This will ensure that everyone is in the same format and makes for easier editing and a better finished product.
  • If you have an external microphone, use that.
  • Frame your shot so we see you from the shoulders up and you take up most of the screen (there shouldn't be acres of space around your head) If you're playing an instrument and would like a different perspective (side on for piano, etc) that works, too.
  • Make sure to wear headphones while singing/playing along to the guide track. The finished video should appear to be you singing a cappella.
  • When you are ready, start recording on the camera first, and then press play on the guide track.
  • Let the recording run a few seconds beyond when you finish singing/playing.
  • Watch and listen to your recording to make sure that you are happy with it and ensure that there is no background noise.
  • Don't edit your finished audio. Though, if you need to record in chunks, that should be fine.
  • Please save your file with your name and whatever part you played/sang.
